Southerly

The whole forecast, in one glance.

Southerly draws the coming weather as a single radial dial - temperature, rain, wind, day and night, all at once. Stop scrolling lists of numbers and start reading the shape of the weather.

Top is now. Time runs clockwise into the future.

How it reads

Four readings, one picture.

Every part of the dial carries a different measurement, so the moment you look you already know the answer - “warmer this afternoon?”, “when does the rain arrive?” - without parsing a single row.

Temperature ring

The outer band is coloured by heat - amber for warm, blue for cold - so the day's warmth has a shape you can see.

Rain & snow

A blue bloom swells from the centre where precipitation is coming. Even light drizzle lifts clearly off the dry baseline.

Wind & gusts

Fine spokes grow with the wind, with a dot above each marking the gust - the gap between breeze and blast.

Day & night

The rim fades light to dark on real sunrise and sunset, and dangerous UV is flagged right on the ring.

Turn the hand

Weather, Radially

Sweep the hand to any moment and the centre reads out that hour's exact temperature, wind and conditions. The dial is a radial infographic laid out like a clock face, so an hour always sits in the same place - only the data moves under your finger.

  • 12 hours, 24 hours, or 7 days

One dial, three scales. The same picture adapts from “the rest of today” to the whole week ahead.

  • Feel the weather

Haptics track the curve as you scrub - the wind rising, the tide turning - with a firm tick at every midnight.

  • One tap back to now

The NOW button snaps the hand home and resets the window to the present moment.

Dragging the dial's hand into the future to read a chosen hour's temperature, wind and conditions.

Why it's better

Read the shape, not the spreadsheet.

A column of numbers tells you eight separate facts. A picture tells you the trend - and the trend is what you actually wanted: it warms through the afternoon, the wind builds toward evening, the rain arrives after six.

  • Everything at once

Temperature, rain and wind share one frame, so you compare them at a glance instead of cross-referencing three lists.

  • Time you can feel

Because time wraps around the dial, “this afternoon” and “after midnight” become places on the face - not numbers you have to keep in your head.

  • Calibrated, not relative

A given rainfall or wind always draws the same size, so heavy rain looks heavy - the dial never quietly rescales on you.

More inside

Built for where you actually are.

Southerly is made on the southern edge of the world, and it carries a few things other weather apps don't.

Tides, built in

A genuine offline tide predictor - over 5,000 harmonic stations worldwide, computed entirely on your phone with no service and no connection. Coastal locations get a delicate tide curve around the dial.

Informational only - never for navigation.

Te ao Māori

Turn on te reo Māori and Aotearoa comes through: iwi place names, days and conditions in te reo, and the maramataka - the Māori lunar calendar - with tonight's named pō, its moon phase, and the Tangaroa nights for trapping.

Glows in the dark

Dark Mode turns the dial into a night instrument: a luminous temperature ring, brighter rain, and a shining tide line on a charcoal sky. It matches your device theme the first time you open it.

A story, not a spreadsheet

On supported devices, Apple Intelligence writes a short, plain-language summary of your next 24 hours - on device and offline - including underlying detail the chart doesn't show.

For the navigators

Turn on Navigation for live heading, altitude and speed at your current position, plus a true-north marker layered onto the dial. Speed reads out in your chosen unit, knots included.

Your units, your way

Choose °C or °F, millimetres or inches, and any of five wind scales - Beaufort, m/s, km/h, mph or knots. Save the places you care about and swipe between them; each keeps its own real time zone.
